Coriolanus

Praxis Stage is excited to present William Shakespeare's CORIOLANUS.

In the stratified, famine-plagued, torn-up-and-on-the-brink society that is the Rome of our play, just as democracy seems about to expand, to appease the demands of the riotous underclass, the trumpets of war blast. In this world of haves and have-nots, the rulers and ruled, perpetual war maintains the status-quo and we watch the rhetorical stoking of the perennially entwined flames of honor and hate threaten to consume all hopes of justice. Thus begins CORIOLANUS and from the fallout and ashes of those early scenes, our play emerges to both vex and entertain, trouble and inspire.

Poetry Brothel: Masquerade

An interactive literary cabaret series that fuses poetry, burlesque, live music, aerials, vaudeville, visual art, magic, mysticism, and private, one-on-one poetry experiences.

This year’s masquerade will be a whirling disco ball of costumed time travel with masked mavens of every epoch. Whether your midnight reverie is the golden visage of Versailles twilight OR the Medico della Peste staring back at you from the obsidian surface of a Venetian canal, it matters not. Perhaps you fancy fangs and fore-claws to capes and cowls, or maybe it is some vision of a distant future fantasy that throbs your chambered heart. All beguiling disguises are welcome at this year’s Masquerade!

The Poetry Brothel: Dungeon

Welcome to a unique and immersive poetry event that takes poetry outside classrooms and lecture halls and places it in the lush interiors of a bordello. The Madame presents a rotating cast of poets, each operating within a carefully crafted character, who share their work in public readings, spontaneous eruptions of poetry, and most distinctly, as purveyors of private poetry readings on beds, chaise lounges and in private rooms.

For a fee, all of the poets are available for these sequestered readings at any time during the event. Of course, any true bordello need a good cover; ours is an immersive cabaret featuring poetry, burlesque, live music, vaudeville, aerials, visual art, magic, and mysticism, with newly integrated themes, performances and installations at each event.Doors open at 8pm, and the show begins promptly at 8:30pm.

For more information, please visit thepoetrybrothel.com. Thematic costumes and/or cocktail attire are encouraged but not required.
